Question 2: What attracts you about prospective bulls or other men due to which you might want to become intimate with them?

I don’t think I have an exhaustive list, or at all any note listing the attributes which attract me to a man.

I feel this is a very subjective topic. In some cases the bulls have been men who my stag had selected for me, and I met them only after my stag had fixed up our appointment / situation to meet each other based on who he wanted to get me done by. I think I have already posted a few notes which answers this question. In some instances where I had selected the bull to be with, have been based entirely on my instinct at that particular point in time which prompted me to go ahead. In general (and again this isn’t cast in stone) I have experienced a greater degree of attraction to men who had displayed more masculine characteristics, like facial / body hair, a slightly greater exhibition of aggressiveness to possess me, preferably taller than I am etc. I know these are very superficial, but then who was looking for anything serious there?

To sum-up, it’s all very subjective. I do not have a definitive list of attributes.

We See Seashores Shifting with Satellites

If you’re like us, as soon as the summer Sun is out, you start feeling – well, just beachy, sand you very much.

Lots of our favorite beaches are inside protected marine areas, which are regulated by governments to keep their ecosystems or cultural heritage intact. If you beachcomb at Cape Cod, swim in the Florida Keys or learn about Hawaiian culture at Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument, congrats! You’ve visited a protected marine area.

image

But time and tide haven’t been kind to some protected beaches.

Beaches are constantly changing, and science teams are using our 30-year record of Earth images from the NASA/USGS Landsat program to study what’s happening.

Overall, the sum total of sandy beaches has increased a bit over the last 30 years. But time and tide haven’t been as kind to our protected beaches – the team found that more than 1/3 of sandy beaches in protected marine areas have been eroding away.

image

Some of these areas were designated to protect vulnerable plant and animal species or connect delicate ecosystems. They are home to humpback whales and sea turtles, reefs and mangroves that protect the land from erosion and natural disasters, and species which are found in only one habitat in the world. Losing land area could upset the balance of these areas and endanger their future.

image

Next step: Looking for pearls of wisdom to save the beaches!

Right now, we aren’t sure which beaches are eroding due to natural processes, and which are due to humans – that’s the next step for science teams to investigate. Once we know the causes, we can start working on solutions to save the beaches.

Those 30 years of Landsat data will help scientists find answers to these questions much faster – instead of using airplanes or measuring the beaches by hand, they can use computer programs to rapidly investigate millions of satellite photos spanning many years of change.

image

By tracking beaches from space, scientists can help keep our summers sandy for years to come.

And that makes us as happy as clams.

Chasing the Shadow of Neptune’s Moon Triton

Our Flying Observatory

image

Our flying observatory, called SOFIA, carries a 100-inch telescope inside a Boeing 747SP aircraft. Scientists onboard study the life cycle of stars, planets (including the atmosphere of Mars and Jupiter), nearby planetary systems, galaxies, black holes and complex molecules in space.

AND on Oct. 5, SOFIA is going on a special flight to chase the shadow of Neptune's moon Triton as it crosses Earth’s surface!

In case you’re wondering, SOFIA stands for: Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy.

Triton

image

Triton is 1,680 miles (2,700 km) across, making it the largest of the 13 moons orbiting Neptune. Unlike most large moons in our solar system, Triton orbits in the opposite direction of Neptune, called a retrograde orbit. This backward orbit leads scientists to believe that Triton formed in an area past Neptune, called the Kuiper Belt, and was pulled into its orbit around Neptune by gravity.

The Voyager 2 spacecraft flew past Neptune and Triton in 1989 and found that Triton’s atmosphere is made up of mostly nitrogen...but it has not been studied in nearly 16 years!

Occultations are Eclipse-Like Events

image

An occultation occurs when an object, like a planet or a moon, passes in front of a star and completely blocks the light from that star. As the object blocks the star’s light, it casts a faint shadow on Earth’s surface.

But unlike an eclipse, these shadows are not usually visible to the naked eye because the star and object are much smaller and not nearly as bright as our sun. Telescopes with special instruments can actually see these shadows and study the star’s light as it passes near and around the object – if they can be in the right place on Earth to catch the shadow.

Chasing Shadows

image

Scientists have been making advanced observations of Triton and a background star. They've calculated exactly where Triton’s faint shadow will fall on Earth! Our SOFIA team has designed a flight path that will put SOFIA (the telescope and aircraft) exactly in the center of the shadow at the precise moment that Triton and the star will align.

This is no easy feat because the shadow is moving at more than 53,000 mph while SOFIA flies at Mach 0.85 (652 mph), so we only have about two minutes to catch the shadow!! But our SOFIA team has previously harnessed the aircraft’s mobility to study Pluto from inside the center of its occultation shadow, and is ready to do it again to study Triton!

What We Learn From Inside the Shadow

image

From inside the shadow, our team on SOFIA will study the star’s light as it passes around and through Triton’s atmosphere. This allows us to learn more about Triton’s atmosphere, including its temperature, pressure, density and composition!

Our team will use this information to examine if Triton’s atmosphere has changed since our Voyager 2 spacecraft flew past it in 1989. That’s a lot of information from a bit of light inside a shadow! Similar observations of Uranus in 1977, from our previous flying observatory, led to the discovery of rings around that planet!

International Ground-Based Support

image

Ground-based telescopes across the United States and Europe – from Scotland to the Canary Islands – will also be studying Triton’s occultation. Even though most of these telescopes will not be in the center of the shadow, the simultaneous observations, from different locations on Earth, will give us information about how Triton’s atmosphere varies across its latitudes.

This data from across the Earth and from onboard SOFIA will help researchers understand how Triton’s atmosphere is distorted at different locations by its high winds and its strong tides!

Personal Observations Concerning Life

Personal Observations Concerning Life by J. Sousa These are just crazy, perhaps non-sensical observations I made after finally getting uncapped Internet. Caution is advised. If one is given the endless information gathered and created by humanity, one will most likely seek to maximise one's utility given limited time and resources. Without limits on time and / or resources, one would seek out their true interests, seeking to maximise the knowledge of these interests so as to increase the utility gained from these. This might lead to the discovery of additional interests, which would lead to and endless "fractal", spiralling outward ad infinitum into the endless bounds of all information. The abovementioned cycle is the cause of humanity's (and other species') discovery / formations of methods to increase the frequency at which utility is gathered from these interests, given that time / resources are limited. Tl;dr: Internet makes us want to seek out interests.

Monster Hunter Wilds Spoilers below and in tags. You were warned.

Post made around March 2.

With the release of the game and it being out for a bit now, it shows that they were not very willing to hide a few more monsters from us in the trailers, though the few things that wasn’t shown makes a interesting case on fictional biology, with one monster in particular showing how secretly frightening adaption works in the Forbidden Lands.

The one I referred to aren’t the Wylk beasts or the final boss, but Nu Udra's smaller friend who hides much more underneath .

The guy's name is Xu Wu and there is a lot to go off here.

Monster Hunter Wilds Spoilers Below And In Tags. You Were Warned.

An eyeless octopus with what look to be teeth on its head, something resembling a ponytail behind the “teeth”, markings on it's “face” that either looks like a beard or teeth, tentacles that leak a yellowish fluid that hardens into blade-like crystals, and a mouth less like an octopus beak and more like a very toothy starfish.

It feels less like a monster and more like either a walking fungus, an alien, or something eldritch, something that I adore. I always loved the monsters at actually look like the word monsters and not just big animals like Gigi, Xeno, and Goss.

Monster Hunter Wilds Spoilers Below And In Tags. You Were Warned.

Even it’s name tells a tale, as while in English it does mean much especially as two words, put it together and you get a Chinese word 虚无 Xūwú (pronounced Shee Wu), which translates to nothingness, emptiness, or just void.

With how the monster is small, speedy, favors ambush and hit & run tactics, it seemingly considering most creatures, even humans in two cases(you & a villager) as prey, how it has a false face and a maw of teeth, and how the armor with a Middle East motif and weapons named after famous assassins, you have a monster that, when It’s in the area you pray it doesn’t “see” you before you do lest you vanish.

But the most weird thing is it’s diet and how it adapted to it’s prey.

For one thing, it’s s prey isn’t even natural, or shouldn’t even exist, though some people suggest that they are attracted to strong bioenergy carrying monsters.

The guardians are artificial monsters born of the living mass knows as the dragontorch, basically gene manipulation by the ancient civilization to create homunculi.

And these guys aren’t random monsters, they’re dangerous in their own ways, Doshaguma may be the easy to make grunts that could have a leader, Rathalos are the eyes in the sky, Ebony the patrolling sentry with speed and violence to act on, Fulgur the brute to deal with big problems, Arkveld the unpredictable due to monsters or problems having no defenses against an extinct monster, and Zoh Shia, who might as well be a man-made god of hate.

All of these guys (an argument for Doshaguma) are basically apex-elder tier threats. Something a foolish person thinks would work well for defense.

And Xu Wu basically wins every “turf war” with the guardians. Calling them turf wars feels wrong as 3/4 of them starts after Xu Wu knocks its prey over and starts eating them until they escape.

Ebony gets at least a fight, but ends up skewered and thrown away.

Arkveld might tie with a few hits from Xu Wu until the chains get him, and he isn’t elder level enough for Zoh Shia, but it’s still an interesting thought.

Think it this way: you are a scientist who created powerful artificial life forms to prove you are a god, but nature outdid you already with a creature that was born to prey on the strong, energy rich monster, which your creation fits the bill.

It then proceeds to turn your work into a snack with the only things that could win one of a kind monsters you aren’t willing to lose.

You tried to play god, but nature one upped you without effort. You can never surpass the natural world because it already found a biological version of what you thought of.

You lost a fight to the natural order before you even got started.
