Moontown's Prologue is out now!! Check it out on Tumblr, or Webtoon, or the official Moontown website, if you want extra updates, announcements, and secrets!!!!!

Prologue, Page One

Panel One: Open with a black, nondescript box. It is framed somewhat ominously, a la mysterious obelisk, 2001: A Space Odyssey style. A dialogue box snaking in from the corner: “On air in five.”

Panel Two: Between the panels, there is some space. Same angle, but the digital clock clicks on with a buzz from the circuitry. The fluorescent glow of the 14:00 minute mark is almost blinding.
Prologue, Page Two

Panel One: Behind the scenes, wires running to cameras and equipment at everyone’s feet rustling around and preparing for the interview to begin. The light from the digital clock illuminates the world behind the cameras. The tail of the dialogue box trails up to an unseen face behind a glass window: “Three,”

Panel Two: As if following the wires along, the attention now falls on a pair of dress shoes, in stark contrast to the functionality of the crew. The shoes step forward, still behind the cameras but ready to walk on stage when the time is right. The “Two,” trails off from the panel, connected to the previous panel above.

Panel Three: Finally, we see the face of the man behind it all. Manchot stands with a look of serious contemplation on his face, a sharpness to his eyes and the traces of a scowl at the corners of his mouth. Someone is just finishing adjusting his lapel mic as he stands. “One.”
Prologue, Page Three

Panel One: The clock ticks down to 13:59, the “TICK” sound repeating and traveling down to the next panel.

Panel Two: A bit of an in-between frame as the ticks connect the panels. Manchot re-adjusts his tie,

Panel 2.5: and puts on a wide, confident stage smile as he steps into the blue light of the set in front of the cameras.

Panel Three: The interviewer is revealed, as the entire scene as we would accurately see it in an interview. She is leaning forward, a blue holographic projection of her notes floating in front of her, as she announces to the camera - “I’m Lowrie Rath, and this is Fourteen Minutes.”
Prologue, Page Four

Panel One: She smiles, wide and plastic, and continues. "We have a very special guest with us today.“

Tweener Text: “Innovator and inventor, multinational corporation CEO, and major benefactor of the Great Chill Reformation -"

Panel Two: "Without further ado, let’s give a warm welcome to Harlan Manchot!" A view of the sound guy, watching this on camera and adjusting the applause of the fake “audience” as necessary.

Tweener Sound Effect (merging into next panel): An automated applause track plays behind the camera and fades out uniformly, despite the show taking place in a closed studio.

Panel Three: Manchot makes his way to the chair, cane in hand. He smiles professionally at the interviewer as she continues. "And a warm welcome may very well be necessary -"

Panel Four: Closeup of Lowrie. "if my intel is correct, Mr. Manchot, you've just returned from your Finland headquarters?"

Panel Five: He lets out a short chuckle. Everything is played up for the audience sitting at home. "You are not mistaken, Ms. Rath - though I hope with Mancorp's latest expansion project, it won't become much colder from here on out."
Prologue, Page Five

Panel One: Rath jumps on this opportunity, turning to the camera. “Of course, for any off-gridders out there still living under their rocks - ”

A laugh track from the audience, cut off quicker this time. She looks down at her notes, zooming out as a series of images fill the screen - changes to a rotating slideshow of images from across the years. Descending display of these alongside the text.

Slide One: Mancorp logo. "Manchot Corporations has been a household name in environmental patching for the last ten years.”

Slide Two: An image of Manchot shaking hands with some figurehead. “With Mancorp’s tireless efforts to save our planet - invaluable developments in pseudo-atmospheric technology, spearheaded by Harlan Manchot himself - the threat of the Great Chill has finally become a relic of the past.”

Slide Three: Examples of the bubbles, surrounding an oil field. “Mancorp has donated over 20 billion dollars toward the installation of these "atmospheric bubbles,"

Slide Four: A map of the places these have been implemented. “as our audience has surely seen in the backyards of their own communities all throughout North America - and very shortly, to our neighbors across the pond.”
Prologue, Page Six

Panel One: We cut back to Manchot and Rath, who pinches the notes - they shrink back to their original size. ”So - as you can see, we have quite a lot to thank you for, Mr. Manchot.”

Manchot just laughs lightly in return. Rath continues, scrolling through her hologram notes. “Now, for our first question of the night.”

Tweener: “Mr. Manchot - you’ve truly made great strides in the past ten years,"

Panel Two: A closeup of Manchot. He seems slightly frustrated, though he tries his best to hide it.

Tweener (continued): "especially considering the break in your career over a decade ago now – “

Panel Three: Manchot sets down his mug of coffee with careful precision.

Tweener (continued): “You were able to grow from a small tech company to a global powerhouse in the blink of an eye! My question to you – “

“What is your secret?”
Prologue, Page Seven

Panel One: Manchot, still holding his coffee, matches her energy, leaning forward in his own seat. "Well - a businessman never reveals his secrets, Ms. Rath - "

"But, I suppose I could share a bit behind the scenes."

Panel Two: Two shot of Lowrie and Manchot, who leans back slightly - "Above all else, perseverance is key - continuing to push your work forward, even if it seems an impossible task."

Tweener text: “And do you consider yourself a self-made man, Mr. Manchot?”
Panel Five: The text bubble emerges from an old television, somewhat electric and staticky from a slightly obscured Lowrie. We see a shot of the television from somewhat of a distance - it sits on a table, on top of which a framed wedding picture rests.
Prologue, Page Eight

Panel One: A rather angry Richard Felix sits in the foreground, gripping the remote from his place on the couch. From the TV, Manchot almost seems to stare Felix down directly in an unspoken challenge. "You know, Ms. Rath, I do. Not to lessen the impact of Mancorp's more (beat) collaborative efforts, of course - "

Tweener/Panel Two text: "But I do believe I’ve climbed this ladder through my own means - and done a rather good job of it, as well!" Light laugh track that fizzles -

Panel Two: Back out, the remote hits the television as Manchot continues talking. The text warps halfway through, and the screen is cracked and half-broken from where it was hit by the remote.

Panel Three: The picture starts to fall - Felix catches it, frantic, before it is able to.

Lowrie (O.S): "Speaking of collaborative efforts - you do have associates in your field today, correct?”

Lowrie continues. "A literal sister company, if you will."
Prologue, Page Nine

Panel One: Closeup of Manchot, a tight smile that doesn't quite reach his eyes.

Lowrie (O.S.): "Kaisa Elwood’s waste management sector was able to provide much of the funding that made Mancorp’s continued efforts possible.”

“If I recall correctly - before she was one of Mancorp’s largest investors, she was actually the acting CEO of your company during your several year long break –? "

Panel Two: Manchot interrupts, reluctant to admit her significance but giving in for the sake of appearing amicable on live television. “Yes - it is true that my dear sister was a significant investor for Mancorp. She has since stepped down to work on her own projects."

"In fact, Stardust, Inc. has been absolutely invaluable in our North American clean-up program."

Panel Three: "But!” He claps his hands together - “I refuse to let my sister hog the spotlight!"

"Bring her on next, I’m sure she’d love to talk; but I’ve only a few minutes left!”

Panel Four: Lowrie chuckles, a rehearsed, mechanical thing. “Of course, of course."

"When we return, we'll discuss Mancorp's newest, most ambitious project - the Moontown Mission."
Prologue, Page 10

Panel One: "We'll be right back to Fourteen Minutes - after a quick word from our sponsor," Lowrie smiles at the camera.

Tweener V.O: ”Stardust Disposal! Payment plans starting at …….” (it fades out into nothing as Lowrie continues talking.)

Panel Two: Our focus shifts to the digital clock above them, counting down from 8 minutes to -

Panel Three: A digital stopwatch, counting down from 7 hours and 59 minutes on someone's wrist. Their left hand, fingers made of metal, sets the time.

Panel Four: Marklee, hoodied and suspicious, walking towards the giant ship in the background with a clear mission. This continues into the next page of the spread.
Prologue, Page 11

Panel One: The previous BIG panel goes beyond the tenth page, making up the entire background of the 10-11 spread.

Panel Two: Marklee looks behind his shoulder, hand on the railing leading up to the ship's door, scanning a keycard and slipping inside.

Panel Three: The door slams closed behind him. Overlaid with a beep-beep! Beep-beep! Of a digital timer going off.

Lowrie (O.S): "...And, we're back."
Prologue, Page 12

Lowrie (O.S.): “As for your new project, Mr. Manchot - why don’t you take over? Tell us what this ‘Moontown mission’ is,”

Lowrie, in a joking tone: "and, more importantly, what it will mean for us!” Laugh track.

Manchot (O.S.): “I thought you’d never ask, Ms. Rath.”

"Tomorrow night, Manchot Corporations will make history - our specialized team of researchers will embark on a journey to the first legally recognized settlement on the moon."

Collage: "Scientists,"

A bit of a collage of everyone.

Kendrick, studying their notes and looking up to the sound of someone knocking at the door.

Heraldine, looking at her computer in shock. The shine of the acceptance email reflects in her glasses.

Antoine, finding a piece of mail in a giant, disorganized stack in his college dorm room.

"Military,"

Serene and Audrie standing at attention - their commander hands them a personalized note in a silent order of recruitment.

Jakob sits at his desk, Noelle's hand on his shoulder, pushing him forward.

Panel Seven: "Journalists,"

Cam, sulking and looking out the window of his personal limo.

Arlo, excitedly receiving a personal letter addressed to him. Joslyn looks from the window.

At the center of everything, Marklee, still hoodied and still suspicious, walks down the stairs, away from the ship with a now empty backpack.
Prologue, Page Thirteen

Panel One: Return to Manchot, narrating. "And myself, of course," (beat) "all working diligently over the next three months."

Tweener: "Think of it as... a test run, for the future."

Panel Two: Lowrie, eyes wide and hand covering her mouth. “Wow. Can you reveal anything you’re going to be working on?”

Panel Three: Manchot, smiling. “I’m afraid that’s quite classified, Lowrie, but I can say this. What we are going to accomplish - I firmly believe it will change the world as we know it.”

Panel Four: “Well!”

“With that, I think we’re almost out of time. Thank you for sparing us your fourteen minutes, Mr. Manchot.”

Panel Five: Manchot, winking. “Of course, Ms. Rath." He taps his watch. "Thank you for spending them here.”

Panel Six: The screen blips off, leaving a blank void in its place.

I don't know I'm not done talking about it. It's insane that I can't just uninstall Edge or Copilot. That websites require my phone number to sign up. That people share their contacts to find their friends on social media.

I wouldn't use an adblocker if ads were just banners on the side funding a website I enjoy using and want to support. Ads pop up invasively and fill my whole screen, I misclick and get warped away to another page just for trying to read an article or get a recipe.

Every app shouldn't be like every other app. Instagram didn't need reels and a shop. TikTok doesn't need a store. Instagram doesn't need to be connected to Facebook. I don't want my apps to do everything, I want a hub for a specific thing, and I'll go to that place accordingly.

I love discord, but so much information gets lost to it. I don't want to join to view things. I want to lurk on forums. I want to be a user who can log in and join a conversation by replying to a thread, even if that conversation was two days ago. I know discord has threads, it's not the same. I don't want to have to verify my account with a phone number. I understand safety and digital concerns, but I'm concerned about information like that with leaks everywhere, even with password managers.

I shouldn't have to pay subscriptions to use services and get locked out of old versions. My old disk copy of photoshop should work. I should want to upgrade eventually because I like photoshop and supporting the business. Adobe is a whole other can of worms here.

Streaming is so splintered across everything. Shows release so fast. Things don't get physical releases. I can't stream a movie I own digitally to friends because the share-screen blocks it, even though I own two digital copies, even though I own a physical copy.

I have an iPod, and I had to install a third party OS to easily put my music on it without having to tangle with iTunes. Spotify bricked hardware I purchased because they were unwillingly to upkeep it. They don't pay their artists. iTunes isn't even iTunes anymore and Apple struggles to upkeep it.

My TV shows me ads on the home screen. My dad lost access to eBook he purchased because they were digital and got revoked by the company distributing them. Hitman 1-3 only runs online most of the time. Flash died and is staying alive because people love it and made efforts to keep it up.

I have to click "not now" and can't click "no". I don't just get emails, they want to text me to purchase things online too. My windows start search bar searches online, not just my computer. Everything is blindly called an app now. Everything wants me to upload to the cloud. These are good tools! But why am I forced to use them! Why am I not allowed to own or control them?

No more!!!!! I love my iPod with so much storage and FLAC files. I love having all my fics on my harddrive. I love having USBs and backups. I love running scripts to gut suck stuff out of my Windows computer I don't want that spies on me. I love having forums. I love sending letters. I love neocities and webpages and webrings. I will not be scanning QR codes. Please hand me a physical menu. If I didn't need a smartphone for work I'd get a "dumb" phone so fast. I want things to have buttons. I want to use a mouse. I want replaceable batteries. I want the right to repair. I grew up online and I won't forget how it was!

an updated logo for the moontown webcomic! the main character Joslyn stands front and center, holding a camera and seeming very spooked. Behind her, Arlo and Manchot stand with varying degrees of worry and shadiness. behind everyone Marklee dangles, head slumped over and arms held up like a marionette by red conspiracy theory string.

so many moontown doodles for comic prep and for fun thought I’d share some recent ones under the cut

↓↓ ↓↓ ↓↓ ↓↓

an illustration of my oc Carlisle I did for an art collab! his hands are clasped together and various other ghostly hands surround him. One, a scarred hand with metal prosthetic fingers, lightly rests on the side of his chest. another, a larger hand with an expensive watch, is clasped around his left wrist. An older hand covers his left eye and another has snaked its way around his neck. a final, ghostly hand caresses his right cheek. Carlisle is very tired.
various messy sketches of my oc, Joslyn. mostly practice doodles. bottom left is a redraw of a scene from the comic - she floats in an elevator, startled. in another, she sits and looks up at the stars (not pictured lol), raving about some random thing that wont have lasting consequences for the story at all. nope.
a few other practice sketches. in color theres marklee - he stares at you with judgement. amongst others, theres also a messy sketch of heraldine.
various doodles of manchot the bastard man. from left to right: very messy sketch of him just standing there. a colored sketch of his face - he seems nervous about something, but doesnt want to admit it. another colored sketch in profile view - used a ref pic of a lion yawning and went from there. then a sketch of younger manchot and his ex-business partner - text above felix says "thinks he's in on the joke" and above manchot "about to end this man's whole career." sorry felix
littol doodles of six of my moontown ocs, grouped into "the POVs" and "the crew." the POV clique (left to right) shows marklee, joslyn, and kendrick, while the crew crew is miri, manchot, and carlisle.
little under construction page for the moontown website. getting things prepared!

(if you got this far i love you mwah)
