date someone who is interested in you. i don’t mean someone who thinks you’re cute or funny. i mean someone who wants to know every insignificant detail about you. someone who wants to read every word you write. someone who wants to hear every note of your favourite song, or watch every scene of your favourite movie. someone who wants to find every scar on your body, and learn where they came from. someone who wants to know your favourite brand of toothpaste, and which quotes resonate deep inside your bones when you hear them. there is a difference between attraction and interest. find the person who wants to learn every aspect of who you are.

whyyy is any attempt at being productive like an endlessly dragging negotiation with a kindergardener like okay buddy we'll go to the library and put the phone in the locker okay? Yes you can scroll tumblr later okay. Yes you can watch that mildly interesting two hour long video later, now it's time to do the thing that you actually deeply care about and want to do. No it's not boring, remember, you wanted to do this, you were excited for it? Yes I know thinking about it is more fun than doing it but I promise once you do it it'll be very satisfying. I know it's already the afternoon but there's still many hours in the day so it's not wasted yet, we can still do things. No don't grab your phone again. Yes, you can have a snack too. Come on now please.

I mean I know why, it's the ADHD, but still you'd think I'd get better at this eventually

One of the most frustrating things about being ADHD is the way hyperfixations and skill levels work.

So I, an ADHD person, will get obsessed with A Thing. I will research, I will practice. I'll check out library books, watch YouTube videos, seek out podcasts, all to learn everything I can about The Thing.

Thiat Thing is often a skill or hobby. Painting, writing, candlemaking, baking, mixology, tea blending.

But the thing with ADHD is that you'll be obsessed with it only to a certain skill level. Something where all the mystery is gone. It's not as fun once the learning part is over and it's just boring practice to get better.

Then abruptly, you'll lose interest and move to another fixation.

That skill level you've earned may be higher than your average person with a passing interest. But it's also lower than someone who specializes in said thing, who has put in those hard hours of practice and work.

So you start just forming this miscellaneous collection of things that you're good enough at to earn some praise, but still leave you feeling like you're just never *quite* good enough at anything because you can't just choose anything.

And you want to pick a Thing. To find Your Thing. The thing that fits, that you can finally excel at. But you just can't seem to.

ADHD is so debilitating and it isn’t talked about enough. Imagine your body doesn’t produce enough of the most essential neurotransmitter. You are constantly seeking this neurotransmitter through any way possible, and it’s why you get addicted to doing things or focusing so heavily on something you forget to meet every single basic need.

You sit there and question what the fuck is wrong with you because it was so easy to study yet you just didn’t do it. It was so easy to do the things you stopped doing but you literally can’t do them.

Like wtf do you fucking mean I was born with a chemical imbalance that makes me incapable of getting up??? Wtf do you mean I have to take stimulants to counteract crippling ADHD symptoms, and then those stimulants actually just make me like everyone else????

Dude. What the fuck.

I've said this before but every basic feminism 101 women's empowerment event I've ever been to has been all about telling women and girls that it's okay to speak up for ourselves, it's okay to take up space, it's okay to be strong and fast and loud and hungry and sexy and smart and good at things without feeling shame, but apparently, with the way some people talk, the second a trans woman does any of these things it's evidence of "male socialization" and needs to be called out and "corrected." like, even if this were the case, which it isn't, I think it's patently insane to believe "it looks like these women don't have as much crushing shame from a lifetime of experiencing misogyny as most other women" (<- a claim that, from my experience, is simply not true about trans women) and then follow it up with "I must Fix This by teaching them to shut up and be ashamed" instead of, like, idk "good for them, I wish this type of liberation for all other women as well."

I'm a huge hypocrite, if we're being honest. If I haven't had a beverage and it's been dark for too long I'll be like "nothing has ever been good and I shall die ;__;" but as soon as I get a little sip of water and it's sunny outside I'm like nvm I'm thriving I love life :)

But if my houseplants do that exact same thing, I'll call evert single one of them an overdramatic bitch.

Fairly leaning into art category similar to architecture - there is utility involved and also a lot of creative freedom. Would you say shelter as a concept was discovered or invented? It was a necessity to be able to survive.

I view mathematics as this world people have built brick by brick over the span of humanity. And you are a tourist looking around, marveling at the beautiful buildings (and some interestingly ugly ones as well) built by those who came before you. If you are lucky you might be able to lay down a few bricks yourself.

You don't always understand why something looks the way it does, but sometimes you do and then it's like you are suddenly the smartest person in the room.

the actual annoying thing about people's dislike of math is that it's kinda... mistaken? because the school subject called math, as it's currently taught, isn't really mathematics, it's just pen-and-paper computation class. even into high school (and often college) they're still teaching you rote algorithms and testing your ability to do rote algorithms with pen and paper. when i do math for fun i don't even do all that stuff, i use Wolfram Alpha all the time for algebra and integration and etc.

math is a puzzle game! you get to solve tons of puzzles just by visualizing stuff and thinking about stuff and it's the best puzzle game ever because you can make up your own puzzle in 3 seconds that takes hours of time and insight to solve and you get all these awesome eureka moments and at the end you've proven something universally true. and you don't need to learn very much to start having fun with these puzzles - classical geometry in particular is filled with them and has like no prerequisites and (almost) no numbers.

it is genuinely like if handwriting class was called calligraphy class and whenever you said you like doing calligraphy people would be like "omg calligraphy scares me, i hated being tested on my cursive" and it's like ??? that was not calligraphy. you have not done calligraphy

If I were writing a math textbook I’d have a section in the beginning called “A Note on Notation” where I introduce all the notation Im using. And everyone would want to fuck me sooooo bad

If you want to not talk about your caste on tumblr that’s your business but if you’re upper caste hindu (and no I *do not care* about your theology or if you consider yourself an atheist or some shit any more than the mobs do when they’re deciding which one of us to murder) and you want to present yourself as and collect all of the poc clout for being a ~brown indian desi~ and present your culture as “indian” or worse “desi culture” I 100% do not fuck with you and you’re actively participating in the forced sanskritisation of the lower castes that enables countless daily acts of cultural genocide. You need to stop that shit. It’s not cute.

the NON-GENDERED URGE to run off into the woods with a whiteboard and an algebraic geometry textbook and come back six months later, having been properly functorized (grothendieck'ed, even) by the whole experience
