whenever I see gimmick blogs I don't consider that they have a separate main blog or anything else. That's just what they do all the time. God put them on the internet to count the number of lobsters in other posts and nothing else.
remembering that octopus brains are donut shaped cause their esophagus goes thru the middle of their head and sometimes they die from brain damage from meal too big, and saying a long prayer before bed every night that if something like that happens to me i will be able to handle it gracefully
I cannot believe there's absolutely no way to watch free shows and movies anymore, there are too many paid streaming platforms and pirating websites have viruses and ads preventing you from watching it uninterrupted((.)) id rather follow the rules and purchase media moving forward because it is too inconvenient. Seriously, free and no ads or viruses with 1080p streaming is DEAD.
STOP no more live-action remakes. We're going the other way now. Animated Casablanca. Animated The Godfather. Animated Oppenheimer. Animated Fight Club.

I have a feeling you might not be the right person to ask but do you know how relatively popular each bts ship is within korean speaking armys (+ residing in korea?) ? like based on statistics from fanfiction/fanart sites or regional twitter trends? at some point you said that it's a popular theory that jikook are korea's open secret and I'm wondering if there are some statistics that back that theory somehow? š¤š¤ I'm not questioning the validity of the theory btw I'm just genuinely so curious about the statistics. I'd be happy to know ship ranking statistics even if it doesn't pertain to that specific demographic tbh! if you have that on hand or know where to look. thanks! š
Question my validity! Question the validity of all my theories and everyone else's too! Question everything I say! Please! I'm not a Jikook deity! I'm just some guy! Don't put me on a pedestal please!! Don't do that to anyone! Lol we will all be happier people that way!
Anyways, about the stats. I would fucking love those too. Give me the math! Please! I enjoy the AO3 ship statistics. But that's not going to be worldwide and it's going to be reduced to just the fic writers/readers of the shippers. So idk. If you do the math or find the math somewhere, please feel free to share it!
Does this frog make you feel calm?! Or perhaps like you have been mildly poisoned with henbane?
Please enjoy these extra notes regarding things that appear in my Shameless Big Bang fic Last Night at the Verona Grand Hotel, in order of appearance. Also now listed in the work endnotes on AO3 (but without the pictures).
This post contains lots of spoilers for the fic.
The train that Mickey takes from Chicago to Los Angeles is an Amtrak route called the Southwest Chief.
Mickey reads Treasure Island as a reference to Loftecās fic Take this waltz.
The green popsicle is Melona.
I went for fictionalized geography around where exactly the hotel is, but the descriptions of the view on the drive up are based on pictures of Los Liones Trail.
The Verona Grand is, of course, inspired by the early years of the Chateau Marmont, but also crossed with a creepy old hotel Iāve stayed at in Colorado. The name is a reference to the setting of Romeo and Juliet plus the Neptune Grand from Veronica Mars (for that sunshine noir energy).
The Mark of Zorro (1920): Full disclaimer, unlike Mickey, I didnāt watch the whole thing (I didnāt have the good incentive of looking for my crush), but the moments I referenced are here and here.
(About ten years ago, I went to an outdoor movie screening that had been advertised as The Mask of Zorro but turned out to be The Mark of Zorro; after about 30 minutes, we all gave up and went home. Sorry, Douglas Fairbanks! We wanted Antonio.)
Hunterās name is a reference to 1950s actor Tab Hunter, who came out as gay in 2005. (One of his long-term relationships was with Anthony Perkins of Psycho fame, after they met at the Chateau Marmont.)
KY Jelly has been around since the early 1900s (!). Hereās some of the vintage packaging. Weāll just assume Mickey was distracted and didnāt look too closely at the tube (or thought it was pretentiously packaged hipster lube; thanks for that idea, Deanna!).
Mickey calls Davie āNurse Ratchedā as a reference to One Flew Over the Cuckooās Nest; the actress who played her in the original movie, Louise Fletcher, played Frankās mother in season 2 of Shameless.
Nerve pills: These are fictionalized (I donāt know how well they worked or what they tasted like; probably not nice!) but theyāre based on Carterās Little Nervine Pills, the active ingredient of which was extract of hyoscyamus, which (if my Googling is correct) is henbane. Henbane is quite toxic and can cause hallucinations. It was commonly associated with witchcraft, since ointment made with it could cause people to see things and feel like they were flying. Never change, early 20th century medicine.
Another one of the compounds in henbane is scopolamine, which can be used to treat motion sickness. This worked well for my purposes because I had decided that the sickness Ian and Mickey experience when they stay in the wrong time is a cousin to motion sickness (if traveling through space too fast can make you feel sick, why not traveling through time?).
The concept of quantum entanglement is the other one in my mind when I think about what āconnectsā them each to their own time, but donāt ask me any follow-up questions on that, because honestly Iām not great at physics and I donāt totally understand it. Storytelling-wise, I just like the idea of things being connected to each other on a submolecular level. I refer to this in Two of Your Earth Minutes, as well, for the same reason.
Mickey also makes a reference to the idea of the observer effect. (Lotta quantum mechanics in this dang ghost story!!)
The new movie Ian is going to audition for is A Woman of Paris, directed by Charlie Chaplin.
I think he would have gotten it, don't you?

Okay so in my Computer Applications class we learned about conditional formatting in Excel, where you can change the color of a cell by inputting certain values.
We're supposed to use it to model heat gradients in metals, but I found a better application:

Iām never gonna dance again,

Suddenly struck with a need to explain to you how boat pronouns work (I work in the marine industry).
When you're talking about the design of the boat, you say "it".
When the boat is still being built, your say "it".
When the boat is nearing completion, you can say "it" or "she".
When the boat is floating in the water you probably say "she", unless there is still a lot of work to be done (e.g. no engine yet) then you say "it".
When the boat is officially launched and operating, you say "she". If you continue to say "it" at this point you are not incorrect but suspiciously untraditional. You are not playing the game.
If you are referring to a boat you don't really know anything about you may say "it" ("there's a big boat, it's coming this way"). But if you know its name, it's probably "she" ("there's the Waverley, she's on her way to Greenock").
If you are talking about boats in general, you say "it" ("when a boat is hit by a wave it heels over")
If you speak about a boat in complimentary terms, it's "she" ("she's a grand boat"). If you are being disparaging it may be it, but not necessarily ("it's as ugly as sin", "she's a grotty old tub").
If she has a boy's name, she's still she. "Boy James", "King Edward", "Sir David Attenborough"? The pronoun is she.
If it's a dumb barge (no engine), you say it. But if it's a rowing boat (no engine), you say she.
I hope this has cleared things up so that you may not be in danger of misgendering floating objects.
the ship of theseus wikipedia article in 2003. 20 years later, after 1792 total edits, 0% of its original phrasing remains. (x)
